Tackling "Waterborne Transport Infrastructure" in Brussels

Task Group Kick-off Meeting in Brussels

The Special Task Force on the "State and Perspectives of Waterborne Transport Infrastructure Worldwide" held its kickoff meeting February 4-5, 2015 in Brussels, Belgium. This group is chaired by PIANC USA Commissioner Mr. Nick Pansic of MWH Global. Anne Cann, USACE Institute for Water Resources (IWR) and Helen Brohl of the Committee on the Marine Transportation System (CMTS) also attended, and IWR's Shawn Komlos participated via video teleconference. Representatives from France, Germany, the Netherlands, and the U. K. also attended. The group set the direction for the task force and embarked on four initiatives:

  1. Data Collection;
  2. Data Analysis;
  3. Selection of a Case Study; and
  4. Communication.

The task force will convene via teleconference in March and April, and will present a status report at the PIANC Annual General Assembly in May in Porto, Portugal.

PIANC HQ in Brussels Forms Working Group 181

PIANC headquarters announced the formation of Working Group 181 to investigate and report on the Future of Global Waterborne Transportation Infrastructure. The working group is reaching out to PIANC members, sister organizations, and inland and maritime transport stakeholders for data, reports, and industry knowledge.
