PORTS '16 Conference offers Student Paper Competition

PIANC USA and COPRI are hosting a student paper competition for the upcoming PORTS '16 Conference , June 12—15, 2016 in New Orleans, LA. The competition is open to all undergraduate and masters students. Paper topics include: coastal, environmental, general-civil, geotechnical, ocean, structural and transportation engineering.

The paper can be part of a class project or graduation requirement. Submissions are due March 25, 2016 - start planning your entry now!

Top Four Students from Each Category will receive:

  • Free conference registration, hotel stay for 3 nights in New Orleans, and a $500 travel stipend
  • Cash prizes for First and Second place papers
  • Your name published in the conference program as a student award-winner
  • Optional publication in the electronic conference proceedings after the conference
  • Networking opportunities with students, young professionals, and experienced professionals
  • Access to the exhibit hall, where you can connect with industry leaders

One if by Land - Two if by Sea! A Look at Waterfront Development in the Upper Potomac River System

A Tour of Washington DC & Baltimore Waterfront Facilities offered by PIANC USA

ATTENTION PIANC USA Young Professionals (YPs): Please save the dates of June 22 — 24, 2016, to join us for tours of river infrastructure facilities and development in Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD. This event will occur following the Transportation Research Board (TRB) - US Committee on the Marine Transportation System (CMTS) Conference entitled "From Sail to Satellite: Delivering Solutions for Tomorrow's Marine Transportation Systems" (June 21 — 23), which will also take place in Washington, DC.

The DC and Baltimore PIANC YP visit will begin with a reception during the evening of June 22. Activities on June 23 and 24 may also include a tour of The Pentagon, tours of the Washington, DC waterfront developments by land and water, a cruise and dinner on the Anacostia River, and tours of river infrastructure in Baltimore. Tours will be free of charge and lunch and dinner will be provided on both days. You must provide your own transportation to and from Washington, DC. It is possible that lodging cost assistance may also be provided but is not guaranteed.

More information, including a preliminary itinerary and lodging options, will be provided in a forthcoming announcement. As space is limited, please confirm your participation by email by March 1, 2016 (see below). Participation may be for all or just one of the events/days; please indicate which days you wish to attend in your response. You must be a YP (as defined by PIANC is 40 years or younger as of December 31, 2016) to attend; while membership in PIANC is not a requirement, PIANC members will be given priority to attend.
