December 2024 Webinar on Climate Change Costs to Ports and Waterways
/Climate change is a major business risk. Failing to address that risk can be costly. Yet recent industry surveys confirm that relatively few port and waterway operators have taken the urgent action needed to strengthen resilience and adapt. This webinar focused on PIANC’s latest guidance on the business case for investment in adaptation.
As the climate changes, port and waterway assets and operations are increasingly exposed to changes in temperature, precipitation, and sea level. They also face more frequent atypical or extreme hydrometeorological and oceanographic events.
Participants learned about existing drivers to strengthen resilience and how potential costs and benefits can be identified and quantified to support the case for investment. Dr. Giovando covered the triple dividend, loss-avoidance, and financial, insurance, and regulatory considerations, including those of climate-related risk disclosure.
There has never been a better time to reconsider your climate preparedness and make the necessary investments to protect your critical port and waterway assets.
